The Sundering ripped the world of Azeroth apart, splitting the united continent of Kalimdor into pieces. It also tore apart the Well of Eternity, leaving only the Maelstrom in its stead. What effect this had on Azeroth’s world-soul hasn’t really been explored. But given that the Well of Eternity...

The abrupt, angry question delivered by pretty much any Demon Hunter NPC you click on in game is admittedly harsh to hear. It’s also really easy to take offense to, particularly since Demon Hunters are the newest allies we have. But it’s a legitimate question when asked to anyone else on Azeroth – and yes, that includes Death Knights and Forsaken alike.

Because when a Demon Hunters says they’ve sacrificed everything, they mean it.

Illidan Stormrage

Illidan stands out as the first Demon Hunter – it was a title he earned some time after seemingly betraying the kaldorei during the War of the Ancients. He didn’t want to ally with Azshara and Mannoroth, he wanted to find a way to stop them both. The best way to do that was to infiltrate their ranks and figure out exactly what they were doing, and how to stop it.

Back to Victorian Era

Death knights, often abbreviated to DK, are melee fighters that wield dark magic and runeforged weapons. The death knight is the first hero class of World of Warcraft, introduced in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Each death knight begins at level 55 in a phased, instanced area known as Plaguelands: The Scarlet Enclave. Originally, only one death knight could be created per realm per account, but this restriction was lifted in patch 5.3. The requirement of already having a level 55+ character in order to create a death knight was lifted in patch 6.1.

Death Knight abilities rely on a rune system which, when used to perform attacks, generates Runic Power as a resource for different attacks. Runic Power is capped at 100. Blood death knights primarily focus on building enough runic power to consistently self-heal through attacks. Frost death knights deal large amounts of damage through powerful strikes and use of runic power. Unholy death knights focus more on rune regeneration, fast-paced attacks, and the aid of undead minions.

Death knights can wear any type of armor (though they specialize in Plate) from the moment of creation and begin with a full set of Uncommon-quality plate armor. They can wield any type of sword, mace, axe, or polearm and can dual-wield one-handed swords, maces, or axes. Death knights have their own, unique, enchantments acquired by [Runeforging], and also have three unique mounts, the [Acherus Deathcharger], the purchasable [Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade], and the quest reward [Deathlord’s Vilebrood Vanquisher].

Fly me to the Moon

The Pantheon made the only decision they could rightfully make when they chose to imprison the Old Gods. The death of Y’shaarj proved that trying to remove the others would only further endanger and possibly kill Azeroth’s world-soul — and that was the last thing the Titans wanted. But in imprisoning the Old Gods, the Titans inadvertently changed the course of evolution on Azeroth for good.

The Curse of Flesh

Although the Well of Eternity was essentially a wound, it was also a blessing to the creatures that roamed Azeroth’s surface. The mysterious, potent energies radiating from the Well fostered and hastened growth and evolution across the world. The titan-forged left behind to tend to the world helped shape and foster that life, but they weren’t immune from evolution themselves.

When the Pantheon was slain by Sargeras, Norgannon cast a spell that sent their spirits, and the last of their powers, to Azeroth. There, they inhabited the keepers that watched over the prisons of the Old Gods. Their arrival caused a great disturbance in the keepers, who didn’t realize what had happened. Yogg Saron took advantage of the disturbance, weakening his jailers and making an escape. From there, the Old God tainted the Forge of Wills with the Curse of Flesh.
